As a business owner, maybe you have asked yourself whether or not your business website should have a home button in the main navigation menu. As it turns out, there are arguments on both sides to justify whether or not, websites should include a home button.
Reasons why you may not want a website home button
There are many reasons why you really do not need to have a home button navigation link on your website. Here are just a few of those reasons.
Your Logo Already Links to the Home Page
Virtually most, if not all, modern websites have a company logo that links to the home page. Therefore, it would be redundant, and therefore unnecessary to have a home button link in the main navigation of a website.
Reduces Navigation Menu Clutter
Removing the home button from your website’s navigation menu reduces clutter, thus making it easier to use and improving the user experience.
Frees up Navigational Menu Space
Removal of this link frees up space on the navigation menu, which enables you replace it with a higher priority link to an important page. So for example, by removing the home button, you may now have the room to add an “FAQs” link to your navigation menu. Adding the FAQs link may be important in that it may be a popular topic that can help your website visitors make a buying decision (a conversion).
Many Well-Known Websites Do Not have a Home Button
There are many well-known brands whose websites do not utilize a home button. Those include Apple.com, Coach.com, Amazon.com, Tesla.com and many others. So, if it’s good enough for these brand websites, it should be good enough for your website too, yes?

Thus, to accommodate this portion of your visitors, it may be wise to retain a home button in the navigation menu, especially if they are used to seeing one. To do so, can help to minimize confusion and improve the user experience.
Should You Put a Home Button in your Website’s Navigation Menu?
It depends. As such, there is no right or wrong answer. It really boils down to knowing your website visitors to determine which best serves them.
In the case of our own website, we concluded that the best course of action, was to omit the home button from our navigation menu.
