This is a very good question that more and more potential clients seem to be asking when they first contact us from…you guessed it, OUR website!
There could be any number of reasons why your website is not generating new leads. Here are a few common reasons why your website may not be generating new leads (conversions).
Your Website Cannot Be Found
If your website can’t be found in the search engine results when someone queries a keyword relevant to what you do or sell, how can you expect to gain new customers from it? This of course, pertains to organic search results. If you’re doing paid ads, that’s a different conversation altogether.
Your Website is Not Mobile Friendly
On April 21, 2015, Google implemented a new “ranking signal” in their mobile search algorithm that penalizes websites which are not “mobile friendly“. Why? Because non-mobile friendly websites can make it difficult (and frustrating) for the end user (web visitor) browsing your website from a mobile device, to easily find information that is important to them (including your contact information), and thus leave your website to search for a mobile friendly competitor of yours. Google is not just about delivering the most relevant results, but they also take into account the end user experience from the websites found in their results.
Your Website is Ugly and Does not Convey Credibility
The sad truth is that approximately 38% of people leave websites that they consider ugly or otherwise unappealing. So, if your website is old and ugly, people are more likely to leave without contacting you. That’s because many people may assume that if your website looks terrible, then the quality of your service or products may be just as terrible. A harsh reality you may want to address because people are people, and many do judge a book by its cover.
The Bottom Line
The bottom line is that in order for you to maximize results from your website, you need to make sure that it can be found in the search engines, that it is mobile friendly and that it is attractive and professional enough to exude credibility in representing your business.
